Women’s Annual Exams
The doctors at Vitality Primary Care provide women’s annual health exams, also known as gynecological exams or well-woman visits. All sexually active women and/or women who are 18 years or older should visit a qualified doctor on a yearly basis for reproductive wellness checkups. This is when you should ask about STD testing and birth control, if needed. If you are due for a pap smear soon, we can take care of that during one of your yearly gynecological exams, as well! Pap smears are a preventive care service that most major insurance policies cover. Your women’s annual health exam is a crucial component of preventive care, as it helps doctors detect any potential reproductive health issues early on before they develop into more serious problems.
Before a patient undergoes surgery, they may need to undergo a pre-op physical examination, also known as a pre-op exam. During a pre-op physical exam, doctors perform a sort of wellness checkup to identify any health problems you may need to address before surgery. These health exams are considered to be preventive care because they allow your doctor to avoid potentially exacerbating any undiagnosed health issues that could be affected by surgery. The preoperative checkup may be performed by the doctor you see for annual check ups, or alternatively, it could be done by the surgeon who will be operating on you.
Sports Physical Exams
Organized sports leagues generally require athletes to undergo a special physical exam known as a sports physical. This is another important aspect of preventative care, especially for children, because undiagnosed health conditions could potentially be worsened by intense physical activity. During a sports physical, doctors typically evaluate the patient’s vision, heart, lungs, throat, nose, ears, joints, strength, and flexibility.
Work Physical Exams
Many employers require new hires to undergo a special physical examination known as a work physical. This form of preventive care confirms to the patient’s new employer that they are healthy enough to perform their agreed work duties. Let us know if you need a work physical.
